After hearing about Roger Gracie’s injury and subsequent withdrawal from ADCC 2009, Superfight participant Robert Drysdale contacted Kid Peligro with his thoughts: “I am disappointed that I cannot fight against Roger. I have been training hard and was looking forward to a great match. But now that he is out I am issuing a challenge, bring it on! I want ADCC to select a great opponent, be it Fedor Emelianenko, Dean Lister, I don’t care. I will be ready for a great fight.”

With Roger Gracie pulling out of the Superfight due to injury a host of top names are clamoring to take his spot. Two such top fighters contacted Kid Peligro today: Dean Lister and Ronaldo “Jacare”

Lister: “I just now finally heard Roger is out of Superfight. I really, REALLY would love the honor of replacing him after all I was also injured in 2007 as defending superfight champ and I was supposed to face Roger. I am undefeated in absolute and superfight. I am ready and strong and I will put on an exciting match for the world. Proud to be representing ADCC every day of my life.”

“Jacare”: “I’ve just heard about Roger’s vacancy in the Superfight. I want to let everyone know that I am ready to step in and fight. I lost to Roger in 2006 when he got the absolute taking the spot in the Superfight. I want the chance to fight Robert Drysdale and if I win perhaps I can have a rematch with Roger in 2009!”

Gregor Gracie

gregor gracie_2Born in 1986
Home: Brasil
Style: BJJ/submission fighting
Team: Renzo Gracie
Division: under 76.9 Kg

MMA record: 2 – 1 – 0

The Gracie family is still the reference when you talk about brazilian jiu-jitsu. First because they’ve developed the style to the higher level which conquered the world in the beginnings of the 90’s. Now Roger Gracie is dominating all BJJ tournaments in a way never seen before. Gracies, as everybody knows, are a huge family and their business is fighting. So they will always have big names at BJJ and MMA scene.

Gregor is one of the Gracie names we will hear a lot. He already have a successful career at BJJ and that starts to pop up at  MMA: With only 23 years old he has three MMA fights (2 – 1 – 0). Gregor is two times World champion, Brazilian champion, Pan-Am champion and two times National Teams champion. He basically won every major competition he has been!

This year Gregor is going to compete at under 77 Kg division at ADCC Barcelona 2009. This is the same division as Kron Gracie. It would be interesting to see two Gracie competing against each other… But for that to happen we can’t forget that they will, depending on the brackets, have to pass through names like Marcelo Garcia, Ben Askren and Pablo Popovich, which is a very difficult task for any fighter in the world.

Braulio Estima

Braulio estima.Nickname: Carcará
Born in 1980
Home: Birmingham, UK
Style: BJJ & Submission Fighting
Team: Gracie Barra
Division: under 87.9 Kg

Braulio Estima is one of the favorites to win ADCC Barcelona 2009 in both under 87.9kg and the absolute division, he was silver medalist in 2007 losing in the final at a very technical 20 minutes fight against Xande Ribeiro.

Many BJJ and Submission fighters when they face a presumably dangerous opponent they forget the main idea about the submission competitions and they are satisfied by doing a point and hiding the rest of the fight, but when you see Braulio’s fights you can easily notice the difference, the “Carcara” is one of the athletes who fights with his heart and always goes to submissions doesn’t minding who the opponent is, and quite often he succeed, during the Pan American 2003 championships, Braulio took a total of less than 4 minutes and 40 seconds to win all six of his fights. A record that still stands in any official competition”-http://www.graciebarrabirmingham.com
